Who is responsible for this website?
Magellanic Media is run by Lucas Biggs in Stanley, Falkland Islands. This notice explains how information is handled when you visit magellanic.media or enquire about a shoot or footage licence. For privacy questions, contact lucas@magellanic.media.
When you contact me
The contact form collects your email address and anything you choose to include, such as your name, project details, location and preferred dates. Please include only the information needed to discuss your enquiry.
Form submissions are stored in the website database and sent to my email inbox. The form also records technical details, including the submission date and time, page address, browser information and IP address. These help with delivery, troubleshooting and protection against spam.
I use this information to respond to you, prepare quotes, discuss licensing and carry out agreed work. Sending an enquiry does not subscribe you to a mailing list.
Website statistics and search visibility
This website uses Independent Analytics to understand page visits, referring websites, approximate visitor locations and device or browser types. It runs on this website and does not use analytics cookies. It creates an identifier from an IP address and browser information using a one-way hash; the additional random value used for that identifier is refreshed daily to limit recognising visitors across days. This is separate from the technical information stored with an enquiry.
Google Analytics is not enabled. Google Search Console is used to understand how the website appears in Google Search; it does not install a Google Analytics tracking tag on the website.
Cookies, browser storage and spam protection
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Similar storage can also be used to support website features. The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to help prevent spam and abuse. When reCAPTCHA runs, Google processes technical information such as your IP address, browser and device information and interactions needed to assess whether a request is genuine. Google states that reCAPTCHA sets a security cookie called _GRECAPTCHA for risk analysis. Other Google cookies may also be involved, depending on your browser and Google settings.
The contact form loads Google reCAPTCHA for spam protection. Google processes reCAPTCHA information on our behalf for security, fraud and abuse prevention. Read Google’s reCAPTCHA data-processing information. If you prefer, you can email lucas@magellanic.media instead.
WordPress uses functional cookies for authorised administrators signing in and browser storage to check support for displaying emoji. Administrator login cookies are separate from ordinary browsing of the portfolio.
Fonts, media and external links
Some fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts. Loading them connects your browser to those providers and sends technical connection information, including your IP address. Their own privacy notices explain how they handle that information: Google and Adobe.
The portfolio videos are served from this website. If you follow a link to YouTube, a social network or another website, that service’s own privacy and cookie practices apply.
Service providers and storage
The website is hosted by Hostinger. Enquiry emails are delivered through Fastmail using FluentSMTP, and website backups are stored in Google Drive. These services process information needed to host, maintain, protect and back up the website or deliver correspondence. Service providers may process information in countries outside the Falkland Islands.
How long information is kept
Enquiries and project correspondence are kept to handle your request and any resulting work, and where needed for business records, disputes or legal obligations. Website submissions and mailbox correspondence are not automatically deleted after a fixed period. You can contact me to ask for information to be reviewed or deleted.
Email delivery logs are set to be deleted after 14 days. Website backups are rotated as new backups are created, so information removed from the live website may remain in a backup until that backup is replaced. Website statistics are retained until deleted.
Your choices and questions
Contact lucas@magellanic.media to ask what personal information is held about you, request a correction or deletion, or raise a concern. I may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request. Some records may need to be retained for legitimate business or legal reasons. Any statutory rights available to you depend on the laws that apply to your circumstances.
This notice may be updated when the website or its services change. The date above shows when it was last revised.
